Matthew McConaughey's surprising connection to Woody Harrelson

Matthew McConaughey has shared a revelation about his relationship with his friend and Hollywood co-star Woody Harrelson.

The acting duo, who notably shared the screen on the debut season of acclaimed crime drama True Detective in 2014, have been friends long before they ever acted on screen together.

Now it has been revealed their bromance could have even greater ties, as the actors could be blood related.

McConaughey, 53, and Harrelson, 61, are set to reunite on screen for an upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series, titled Brother From Another Mother, which triggered the conversation about their relationship.

Appearing on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, McConaughey shared that the pair could actually share the same father.

“You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line,” McConaughey began.

He continued, “In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families,” McConaughey said. “And my mum [Mary Kathlene McCabe] is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad’ … Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mum left after ‘knew.’ It was a loaded ‘knew’."

“We went on to unpack what this ‘knew’ meant and did some math and found out that [Harrelson’s] dad [Charles Harrelson] was on furlough at the same time that my mum and dad [James Donald McConaughey] were in their second divorce. Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a ‘knew’ moment.”

McConaughey said he and Harrelson are "on the precipice" of getting DNA testing done to uncover the truth, but McConaughey shared he has reservations because he’s spent “53 years believing” his dad James was his biological father.

Both their fathers have passed away, with James dying of a heart attack in 1992, and Charles, a notorious US hit man and organised crime figure, also dying of a heart attack in his jail cell in 2007.

Woody Allen addresses allegations in first interview in 30 years

Woody Allen has spoken out for the first time in 30 years about the allegations against him as well as his relationship with his wife Soon-Yi Previn.

Allen, 85, spoke with CBS Sunday Morning for his first in-depth on-camera interview in three decades.

He addresses the allegations brought against him by his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow who claims that Allen molested her when she was seven years old.

Allen denied there being truth to the claims but he doesn't think Dylan is lying either.

“I believe she thinks it,” Allen says (via Deadline). “She was a good kid. I do not believe that she’s making it up. I don’t believe she’s lying. I believe she believes that.”

Allen has implied in the past that Dylan has been misled to believe something happened when Allen says it didn't as the claims came out during a heated custody battle with his ex Mia Farrow in 1992.

“It’s so preposterous, and yet the smear has remained,” Allen says in the interview.

“And they still prefer to cling to, if not the notion that I molested Dylan, the possibility that I molested her.

“Nothing that I ever did with Dylan in my life could be misconstrued as that.”

He continues: “There was no logic to it, on the face of it. Why would a guy who’s 57 years old and never accused of anything in my life, I’m suddenly going to drive up in the middle of a contentious custody fight at Mia’s country home (with) a 7-year-old girl. It just – on the surface, I didn’t think it required any investigation, even.”

The interview also discussed his relationship with Soon-Yi Previn, which has been controversial since it began. The pair met when Soon-Yi was the adoptive daughter of Mia Farrow and the pair began a relationship despite their 35-year age difference.

“I would say, the many women I’ve dated in my life — many women — they were all what the appropriate police would call appropriate, age-appropriate,” he explained.

“Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, (second wife), Louise Lasser, my first wife … until Soon-Yi, which is unusual for me.

“If you had told me that I was going to wind up married — happily married — to an Asian woman, much younger than me, not in show business, I would have said, ‘Well, the odds of that are very slim. I don’t think you’re going to be right.’ But that’s what happened.”

He addressed that the way they met was unusual but said that they came together in a less scandalous way than people think.

“I never slept at Mia’s house in all the years I went out with her,” Allen told Cowan.

“We had a relationship but there was never gonna be a marital relationship … It got to be a relationship of convenience after a while.”

He noted that “the last thing in the world that anybody wanted was to hurt anybody’s feelings.”

How one tissue got Woody Harrelson cast on Cheers

It’s amazing how one tiny action you take can change the path of your life forever. Something as small as a tissue showed that, playing a big part in the way Woody Harrelson landed his iconic role on Cheers.

According to an interview Harrelson gave to Cinema Blend, he had very little interest in becoming a television actor after he graduated from college in 1983. On a whim, he decided to attend an audition for Cheers, knowing that the casting director had already found someone they liked for the role. He had planned to audition (presumably for some experience) before moving back to New York. But, well:

“I was really carefree because I knew I was going back to New York, and they'd pretty much decided on this one guy, but they were just doing a few more auditions, so I went in and I could tell right away — she was like, 'Aha! Hang on.' She says, 'I want you to come in and do this for the boys,' right?" Harrelson says. "Well, it turned out she was taking me in to meet the writers. I didn't know this. I'm following behind her, and I needed to blow my nose. I'm going down the hallway, through a door, into where everybody is, and I just happened to be blowing my nose, and then everybody laughed before I said a word. And as Jimmy Burrows said, 'You had the part right then.’”

Harrelson went on to score five Emmy nominations and a win for his work on Cheers, and has had a long career on screens large and small. And if he hadn’t needed to blow his nose when he did, it might not have happened at all.

Tell us about a time when something seemingly insignificant led to big things for you or someone you know.
